Dr. Gordon Wells serves as the
Program Manager for the Mid-
American Geospatial Information
Center located at the University of
Texas at Austin Center for Space
Research, where he supervises the
operation of the direct broadcast
satellite receiving station. He serves
as a member of the Governor’s
Emergency Management Council,
where his team supports the State’s
preparedness and response programs for homeland security and
natural disasters. His hurricane landfall modeling and simulation
results for storm surge and wind impacts are used by the Texas
Division of Emergency Management for public meetings, plan-
ning, and training, and during activations of the State Operations
Center for decision support during and after landfall. His hur-
ricane simulations have been featured in reports by many media
sources, including NBC, ABC, CNN, the BBC and The Weather
Channel. Dr. Wells is a member of the Drought Technology Steer-
ing Committee, a group of academic and agency scientists work-
ing on better methods to monitor and forecast Texas droughts
and their impacts on natural resources and water availability. He
also conducts research in satellite remote sensing for applica-
tions in resource assessment and environmental monitoring and
is actively involved in the technical development of the next gen-
eration of high-resolution remote sensing instruments.

All poster presenters should plan to arrive no earlier than 7:30
AM to display their work and affix their poster to any available
board. Board space is available on a first-come, first-served ba-
sis – NO holding board space. All poster packaging must be re-
moved from the poster area once posters are installed.

The Conference has arranged a room for presenters to prac-
tice their presentations. This room will be open Tuesday and
Wednesday and is available on a first come, first served, basis.
Please be respectful of fellow presenters when using the practice
room. Just like a regular technical session room, an LCD projector
and screen are provided for your practice.
